The Play for Today! Director Julie Heber has been thinking about putting on The Crucible at the challenging MET stage for years (maybe decades). The furious, innovative, thoughtful, creative production is clearly the result of wild thinking that communicates far beyond the confines of the current location. Attending Small Mouth Sounds at the Maryland Ensemble Theater isn't like just attending a play. Maybe because it's in the round--it's like being at a the silent retreat with the 6 characters, listening to the retreat director as a participant. And maybe that's why in the telling afterward I had everyone laughing, although the audience wa s not inclined to laugh during the play so as not to embarass or mock the participants on the stage.
