pretty good Marumi is a small restaurant and the place often gets packed. Hence, I do not recommend big groups. They have outdoor seating in the back, which is nice because they have heaters in the winter and it is breezy in the summer. I like to drop by here for some spicy tuna rolls. The rolls are a good size and the prices are reasonable. The bento box is always a good choice as well.

Not Special. – The sushi was good and nothing special. The decor and place settings were nice, but the food was less impressive. Don't get me wrong. It wasn't disgusting or bad, it just didn't make the impression and we're probably not gonna go back.

good customer service – I brought my father here on father's day because he wanted to eat sushi, and i must admit that their fish were really really fresh. it was good, we liked it! the waitress who served us was nice too.

BAD Service, not recommend to anyone – I took my best friend who visited me from abroad to this place. Food was so so. We ordered sashimi and sushi set. Raw fish were not that f*esh, gave me bl*nd taste. THE W*RST THING EVER WAS THE WAITRE*S. She impolitely asked for more t*ps which I thought I had already given her reasonable amount. Come on I have lived in this country for more than 20 years and I've known the culture. MAN*GER, PLEASE W*RN YOUR STA*F BEFORE YR REST' gets O*T OF BUSIN**S. I WON'T RECO*MEND THIS PLACE TO ANY... read more

Fresh Fresh Fresh!!! – After about a year in New York, Marumi had remained a mystery to me for too long! We had a party of 5 on a Saturday night and waited almost an hour just to try this little place out (even though when we were seated, the back room was empty). After being seated, we were not presented menus or asked for any drink orders for a long while. Although we had a bad first impression, the food redeemed Marumi from a dismal experience. The fish was super fresh, udon noodles were excellently prepared, and many of ... read more

Oishii Oasis – In the midst of cheap eats catering to NYU students, MARUMI is like a Zen oasis. A clean, calm, comfortable space serving authentic Japanese food prepared and served by authentic Japanese people. I say this with some surprise and much irony because in New York, Japanese eateries tend to be the creations of Chinese, Korean and Thai restaurateurs. Also a pleasant surprise is the quality of the food: Fresh and flavorful. I say surprise due to the very affordability of the menu. Food of this caliber could easily d... read more

The best place – This place is the best. Spicy Sushimi Salad is a creation from above. The salmon and eel cucumber rolls are to live for...

With its covered back garden and fish that's a cut above the rest, this sushi joint makes waves with the NYU crowd. – The Scene Marumi would make a great poster child for the city's neighborhood sushi joints. Sake-fueled chatter peppers the narrow room, much of it originating from the L-shaped wood bar packed with NYU students and neighborhood sashimi seekers. The waitstaff is efficient and friendly, whether diners are seated at the bar, at the tightly-packed tables inside or at one of the few four-tops in the tiny, covered ... read more
