In 1943, Martin's News was established by brothers Steve and Al Martin. The store was originally located on Stratford Avenue in Bridgeport. In July of 1945, the business was moved to Barnum Avenue in Stratford. In 1961, younger brother Ray Martin, Sr., joined the business. Soon the corner became a landmark location for newspapers, magazines and local gossip. Martin's News Stand on Barnum Ave in Stratford, CT is PROUDLY advertising on a sidewalk sign that they sell 'Detox products'. Ya.... The sign says....'Detox products', "Pass your test"! WTF?! We all know that bodegas sell this crap, but now they ADVERTISE! SMH! 🤬 SHAME! Anything to make a buck. I used to like this place, NOT anymore! I sure hope no one in their family is killed by a DUI.

Great people and knowledgeable staff. Great prices. Only complaint is store hours. If you work during the day you can forget about making it here to purchase anything. They are often closed before stated times and on weekends. Ive been told they were closed even when the lights were on and an associate was inside. The owners really need to hire more people and make thier store more available.
