I saw Dr. Barandes in 2008 to check my thyroid. My internist said I was menopausal which wasn't true & thankfully Dr.Barandes found out I had Graves disease. He watched me for a while before he decided to give me radio active iodine. He then adjusted my meds as needed. I retired & it wasn't convenient to go to Manhattan so I saw a doctor on S.I. I had a doctor's visit with this "doctor" who turned out to be a major womanizer and told me i had a year max to live (I had no thyroid issues ever before, i was just going to all specialists to find out why I was coughing) and that he would have to cut out my thyroid. I went to get a second opinion and was told i had a very healthy thyroid. I still do, 18 years later. I complained about him - nobody cared, he is still practicing in NYC.
