When you have the wrong surgeon for a complicated surgery and he severs nerves throughout your neck, you are left with a lifetime of pain. That is what I have suffered for the past 11 years. Daily painkillers. Regret this decision every day.
My neck cancer was much more complicated than the skill of this surgeon. I am left with a lifetime of pain from the neck dissection done by this surgeon. Not a day passes that the pain does not remind me that I should have chosen a different surgeon with more expertise. My next surgeon was Dr. Mark Urken who did three surgeries on my neck and left not a trace of permanent pain or nerve injury. Be careful who you trust your life to; pain is a life sentence.
In 2010 Dr. Persky surgically removed a growth from my parotid gland. The surgery required entry through my neck. Today, in 2022 The scar is not even visible, but more important the growth is non-existent. Dr. Persky's attention to detail, and his practice of answering every question I had before and after the surgery (and I had many questions) fully and with ultimate patience, are still appreciated all these years later.
Dr Persky is one of the best and I have been treated by many and he stand out above & beyond.
Horrendous. Dr. Persky displayed a total lack of compassion, communication skills, as well as basic diagnostic skills.
I was diagnosed with Mudullary Thyroid cancer and sent to Dr. Persky for a consultation. He was respectful, and patient. I am hard of hearing and he was compassionate about explaining everything to me at a pace I could feel comfortable with. His expertise and the staff that surround him, made for one of the best experiences I have had involving surgery and hospitals. He is a gifted surgeon and I am extremely grateful for him and NYU.
4 years later after stage 3 thyroid cancer and with the expert surgery of Dr Persky And his excellent referrals for my continuing care I am in excellent health .
Although I expressed concern about becoming hypothyroid after my hemithyroidectomy, I was told by Dr. Persky I would be fine. He neglected to test me for a common thyroid disease, Hashimoto's, which left me severely hypothyroid after the surgery. He did not explain any risks. In addition, I used another surgeon to complete the removal of my thyroid and she said it looked like he put his thumb in there, due to the amount of scar tissue she found and made my surgery with her very difficult.
