I've never seen a doctor more anxious to leave and not answer questions than Dr McGowan.
Dr. McGowan is easily the best doctor I have ever had - he successfully pieced together a chronic condition which other doctors missed and helped build a treatment plan. Through the ups and downs I have always felt heard, and that I was in the best of hands. He is a credit to the profession and the UCLA system.
Dr. McGowan is the most dismissive, inept doctor I have ever seen. I had to see him for a second visit after he told me to take a cough drop during my first visit since I was still in so much pain. Despite me explaining this, he continued to refuse to treat me or even recommend any over the counter drugs for pain management. I've now been billed for over $500 for those two visits which I cannot afford. Worst experience I've ever had with a medical professional and it unfortunately reflects horribly on UCLA Health as a whole ... read more
Dr. McGowan has (thank goodness) been our family doctor for many years. "Thank goodness" because he saved my life twenty years ago, and has always been and continues to be our most trusted Family Doctor and friend. He's a caring, knowledgeable, thorough, up-to-date diagnostician, a warm caring person, and a credit to his profession.
