Truly magical
A very special Hostel-type stay in Maria Island, Tasmania. I joked with the park ranger “Instead of paying for this accommodation, I could get a FREE one on the main Tasmania island by stealing a croissant!” Built previously by convicts, this is a perfect‘switch off and reset’ place to rejuvenate. No electricity in the room, you need to bring your own bedsheet or sleeping bag to stay here. There’s a mess hall to do your cooking with electricity too. Maria Island is a great getaway place so stay a night or two. Wood and heater provided, 6 bunks in a room that you don't share with anyone else, pretty decent kitchen with gas cookers and pans (no plates or cutlery) and wildlife at your door. You need sleeping bags etc but it's a step up from camping. You can hire a bike but there is no food available on the island.
You can use the fireplace provided and get fire woods around camping area but there is no fire starter. I heard something noises during the night could be mouse and room has food container, make sense.
