It is summer in Chicago, but you do not want to go into a drug store to buy any old ice cream, you want the real thing. If this is the case, make a trip to Bucktown and visit Margie's. Since 1921, Margie's has been making its own candy and ice cream, and it still uses only the best ingredients to produce the best product in Chicago. Family owned for generations, this spot has withstood the brutal ups-and-downs of this neighborhood for over 70 years. Well worth a visit, even for the most discriminating sweet tooth.

Great historic ice cream and candy shop in Chicago. We came at a busy time and had to wait awhile for service. We had the classic Turtle sundae and it was good. I found the decor to be the most charming of all, although it sits on the border between kitschy and vintage.
This place fills up fast! If you want table service, expect a wait to be seated or opt to take your sweet treats to go. The staff are friendly (good old fashioned service), and the ice cream is homemade. They had wayyyy more flavors than I expected them to have on hand. This place is a historic relic that needs to be preserved at all costs. I’ve been twice in one week and plan to visit frequently.
The parlor is famous for good reason. It celebrates the visitation of the Beatles when they came to eat back in 1965, so it's been operating for several decades. There was quite the line to wait in in order to sit down. The portions come with a great helping, a side of chocolate drizzle and a wafer. There are more varieties but there is very limited seating.
Love this place! Still looks the same and has the same atmosphere. Shakes were great but the chocolate carmel nut apple was delicious! Definitely a Chicago must see experience!
