Formerly the Avenue B Social Club, this East Village space is now Manitoba's, a good place to have a drink with friends and reminisce about the glory days of rock n' roll. There is a stage in back, where you can see rising young bands play for free. At other times, the jukebox jumps and the crowd mellows to the scene. All you punk fans out there take note; the bar is owned by Dick Manitoba, front man of the seminal punk band the Dictators. The Dictators are still going strong and are touring in Europe.

Great place for shots.. – I enjoy this place most of the time with my girl, my buddy recently met his life partner here.... have to say this is an "underground love" bar. Kudos to the owner for having this place and managing to keep it from going under. There is also one really annoying bartender, that replaced a really great one. WTF? Anyhow, punk is still alive here.
The best bar in NYC – Great atmosphere, great beers, pretty women, I had great time.
i fell in love that night – i went to manitoba for the first time in may with a friend. possibly my new favorite bar. we only stopped in for one drink, but i will MAKE time to go back to this place. we stayed only an hour or so, time enough to have a really great long island iced tea. the way the bartender made it, it was very smooth going down. was quite potent, but didnt taste the alcohol. the pictures on the wall of all the punk greats were amazing. being a bit of a buff of the late 70s ny punk scene it was a treat. and t... read more
Tonight you're gonna party like it's 1975. – The Scene Punk rock is alive and well in this retro Alphabet City dive named for and run by Handsome Dick Manitoba, lead singer of the Dictators. This transporting venue boasts dark oak paneling, appropriately low lighting, and a fabulous collection of candid, vintage rock and roll photos: Debbie Harry, Joey Ramone, Iggy Pop, Sid Vicious, all legends, all Manitoba's contemporaries. The handpicked, kick-ass jukebox selection includes everything from KISS to the Clash. The Monday ni... read more
Get your ass down there !!!! – I visited this bar whilst I was visiting from Australia on the recommendation of Handsome Dick, the owner. I wasn't disappointed. One of the best pubs i've EVER been to. Great staff, music etc. Get your ass there NOW !!!!!
Kick Out the Jams – There's still plenty of good bands in this town. you just gotta see em on mondays at manitoba's! tiny space was packed but i somehow still found a seat. certainly the most supportinve music scene i've seen in a while. it's all R-A-W-K as far as i can see, at least on this night. makes me wish i lived in the neighborhood, i'd be there all the time!
