A must do activity when visiting Mangawhai. Stunning views of the clear Pacific Ocean. Follow well maintained paths, and steps, up the ridge across the cliffs, accompanied with Tauhou, Piwakwaka, Kingfisher. Clamber over rocky coast, pass beneath stone arch, and epic black sandy beaches, while observed by sunbathing seals. 4 seasons over a 10km walk, take suitable clothes, footwear, and water. Time your walk to hit the beach section at low tide
Wonderful scenic walk starting along the beach then climbing up a steep path to the top with great views north to Whangarei and south of Mangawhai. Good views of Little and Great Barrier Islands, Hen & Chicken islands, Mokehenau islands on the horizon. Good formed track, 232 steps to climb. There is an option to go along the beach either way making a loop, but it is tide dependant, two hours either side of high tide would be impassable in places.
