I dont know what the person below is talking about because this place is awesome!! – Hmmm reading the review below makes me very angry because this restaurant doesnt deserve a review like that. First of all the person below is wrong beause this place does take reservations!!! You actually need reservations to eat here because they are booked around the clock. All you do is call ahead because they dont open until 5:30, leave a message and they call you back to confirm your reservations. They even will call you at the time of ... read more

Bad Experience – This was my first time back to this family restaurant after 8 years. First of all, they don't take reservations--understandable, since people tend NOT to show up. Second, their hostess (older woman) was rude to walk in customers--her tone, her demeanor. Good grief, these ARE customers, so she should've been more friendly and tactful vs. grouchy and pious. Third, the food, although reasonably priced, was just okay. The evening turned for the worse when the waitress went to remove our dishes. As she was removi... read more

Awesome.. I love this place. Best Sushi in Seattle, that I've found, anyway.. And I love the privacy... Awesome.. I love this place. Best Sushi in Seattle, that I've found, anyway.. And I love the privacy of the little rooms. Great place to take relatives from out of town, or jus tto go on a date with your honey.. I just wish they weren't quite so busy, you have to book sometimes.

Reservations strongly recommended – I love Maneki, as do many of my friends who come over from Japan. It has traditional Japanese food, but also has several dishes that fuse the Pacific Northwest seafood and flavors with traditional Japanese. The only two downsides I can say about the place is that in the last 2 or 3 years it is getting way too popular: the wait list has grown to making it impractical to go to unless you made reservations. The other downside is that I used to go in and see that the majority of customers were... read more

You get what you pay for – This is a place I used to go about once every month or two while I was still in school. I liked it a lot because the price was reasonable. Even though the place is pretty beat up, it has a warm atmosphere because of their long history. Value-wise, I would say it is one of the better places to go for low-end Japanese food in Seattle. Highly recommended for students and people on a tight budget!

I Heart Maneki – In a city where sushi is about as available as specialty coffee drinks, I choose Maneki over and over again for their extremely fresh fish selection, comfortable and traditional setting, and dirt-cheap prices. Pay a little more for the Blue fin Sashimi--it is absolutely amazing.

Mediocre Japanese food – Maneki used to be my fave Japanese restaurant in Seattle. I loved the authenticity and old school ambience of the restaurant. However, dinner tonight was quite disappointing. We ordered broiled salmon belly which came out stale and not crunchy like it used to be AND it had no seasoning at all. I had to dip it in soy sauce. The adegashi tofu was the only dish that was still good. We also had takohachi but the squids were chewy. My favorite entree, the Nabeyaki udon was mediocre, they only gave me thre... read more

Old School, Real Deal, Japanese Food – After reading the other reviews flamng the poor service, I joined just so I could point out the high points of this establishment. Yes, service is sometimes slow and the occasional language barrier is difficult but you simply do not get this kind of authenticity anywhere else in Seattle. Maneki have been there over 20 years with the original owners. Grandma is behind the bar and Jean is still taking reservations. The food is extraordinary. Old school local Japanese dishes fill the menu ... read more
