It didn't taste good, even on an empty stomach. Despite being one of New York's oldest establishments, the food is neither authentic nor tasty. What they call shawarma is more like a vegetable salad with meat. The falafel tastes more like beans. The mango drink was tasty. There is nowhere to park on this street. As for the interior and the size of the place, it seats a maximum of four people; it is very cramped. In fact, the word "interior" hardly applies here.
Gotta admit, Mamoun’s Falafel didn’t live up to my expectations. The falafel itself really lacked flavour and the pita tasted a little old. I got the Classic and overall there were just too many sauces and wet ingredients. This made everything a bit soggy and overpowered the falafel. There are definitely better falafel options out there in my opinion. Still worth trying for such an iconic spot but unfortunately it just didn’t hit for me.
Like fine wine, it gets better over time. The shawarma, the hummus, pretty much you can't go wrong at Mamoun's.
Mamoun's Falafel has a 4.5 star rating with 3,857 reviews.
Mamoun's Falafel is open now. It will close at 6:00 p.m.
