Sprawling large area with many campsites in bush or by beach. Fires allowed in a stand. Best if self contained, but is 1 toilet block - no shower- near entry (a looong way from the beach sites), plus dump site. Caretaker will allow filling of 5 or 10l containers from tank water tap at his place if essential. Can fish off pier - salmon & whiting were caught. Road in is dirt for maybe 5-6km but is being widened and paved currently (Feb-26).
Very interesting landscape with an easy 2 km walk. You can see the entrance to the harbour that looks rather treacherous. There are two lighthouses to view on the other shore of the entrance.
Macquarie Heads is a wonderful coastal destination perfect for a family getaway. The scenic drive down the gravel road leads to peaceful camping with stunning ocean views. We enjoyed 4WD access along the beach, excellent fishing spots, and a beautiful jetty for exploring. The facility offers quality amenities including toilets and boat ramp access, all at reasonable prices. The shallow waters and sand bars are ideal for water activities. Beautiful place especially when the weather is good. Pretty good campground ,$10/night No mobile communication.
