The first Macado’s restaurant was opened in 1978 by Richard Macher in downtown Roanoke, Virginia. It soon became popular for its eclectic ambiance of cartoon, antique, and local nostalgic decor, as well as its wide array of hearty yet modestly-priced sandwiches, subs, and entrees. Hadn't been in years. I had a hard time finding the entrance.
We had to wait an hour and forty-five minutes before receiving our food, which I found to be unacceptable. I was part of a group of nine, so I understand that larger parties can take longer to serve, but this was excessive. The service was okay; during the two and a half hours we were there, we were checked on only once, and we received refills just once, despite having empty cups for most of the night. Great lunch and happy hour specials. The staff are always friendly. Almost all the sandwiches we have tried have been really good and the portions are big. Love the potato salad but not a big fan of the pasta salad.
