The first Macado’s restaurant was opened in 1978 by Richard Macher in downtown Roanoke, Virginia. It soon became popular for its eclectic ambiance of cartoon, antique, and local nostalgic decor, as well as its wide array of hearty yet modestly-priced sandwiches, subs, and entrees. Visited Macado’s at 1pm on a Monday. The menu is large and varied with plenty of choices. Our waitress recommended the Bang Bang Bacon Burger Quesadilla—while it was okay, the shell felt a bit empty and I probably wouldn’t order it again. The fresh-made chips were a highlight, especially with the dips (my favorite was the French onion, but my companion preferred ranch).
