My husband and I have been in a New Bern, North Carolina area for just about a week now and have eaten at several of the fine, dining establishments in this area; however, none of them compares, or measures up to this restaurant. My goodness! What to say about this surprising gem. We’re planning to move to the area and decided to find somewhere to eat downtown. When we drove by, we weren’t sure what to expect. There’s a large screened in porch for those who want outside dining without the bugs. There’s counter service and plenty of seating, including a back dining room. My wife took me out for Father's Day the night before (6/20/2026) and I chose M&Ms Cafe. Wen we got there, we were one of 4 or 5 tables. Our server took our order fairly quickly. Our drinks came and after about 30 minutes our appetizer came. The calamari was decent. Then the main course came. My fried oyster plate was just as expected. My first time there. Cozy establishment in the village. Restaurant with bar, but still great for family food. We were there a lunch. Extensive menu for a smaller place. Five of us (adults & kids) were there and all ordered different things. Everyone enjoyed their food. The best part was the interaction with our server. She may have been a server or just a local who has worked there for a while. She had a great dry sense of humor and just had fun with all of us.
