Ordered SEVERAL dishes and was not disappointed. Especially enjoyed the pancakes and boudin sandwich and biscuits and gravy.
Yeah I went in to try this place. I was reluctant because of the prices. I sat at the bar. There was a huge party that must of been 20 plus. I waited over an hour for biscuits and gravy. I finally told them to box it. They didn’t add anything extra to make up for the wait. I’m sure the food is great but not worth that experience. They made me wait so long I’m not even hungry anymore. Also didn’t offer me a to go coffee. They were obviously overwhelmed I am a patient customer but that wasn’t worth it.
The food is out of this world phenomenal, but i don’t know if it’s worth the wait + it’s expensive. You can’t have both. We waited 41 minutes for our food to arrive, and so did everyone else. There were people just standing around hovering and waiting for their to-go food. Servers seemed really young and really slow. I think they need to turn door dash off, it’s not fair to sitting customers to wait 35-45 minutes for their food. Chicken (Nashville style) and waffles was delicious and full of flavor also tried their buttermilk pancakes which was thick and heavy the best I’ve had so far. Never have I given so much rating to a place, real southern food exists here in Chicago!
This review is long overdue harkening back to the Lincoln Ave location days. I hadn't originally walked in with the Shrimp and Grits in mind but that's what I ordered. Shrimp and Grits may seem like an easy dish to make but I've had enough to generalize most anybody can make it but few make it good, fewer make it excellent, and only the fewest make it Michelin star worthy. Luella's sits in the top tier and is one of my top recommended restaurants in Chicago.
