The Louisville Arboretum, easily found on Via Appia Way between the Louisville Recreation Center and the police station, is an unexpected bit of open space and nature in the middle of Louisville's busiest area of town. Opened in 2005, the Louisville Arboretum is accessible via the skate park parking lot and the small bridge leading into the arboretum. Great place for a walk
I wasn't impressed by this arboretum until I learned that it was impacted by the 2021 Marshall fire. There is a touching memorial to the pets that were lost. A few of the tree ID tags are missing. Overall a beautiful space to walk and a heart-wrenching memorial. I'm sure the arboretum will continue to grow and improve as the local residents heal from that tragedy.
