I am from Chicago so I KNOW Italian beef. Loops “claims” they make Chicago style Italian beef but it’s not true. 1) the bread is all wrong. They use like sub sandwich bread. You’re supposed to use Italian bread which is slightly crusty outside and a little chewy inside. They literally just use sandwich bread shaped into a sub and it just soaks up the juice and is mush. 2) the Italian beef should be slow roasted and shaved paper thin and fall apart. I've been catching up on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives to check out all those fantastic restaurants and Loops was first on my list! I tried Da' Meatball and since it was a la carte, I also ordered two Spicy Gyro Rolls with Hotziki dipping sauce. Wow! Watching them cook on Triple D and tasting the food for myself is a whole different experience than what I was expecting. I’ve been in the Columbus area for six years now, and let me tell you — I’ve searched and searched for food that hits like Chicago. Columbus just doesn’t meet my Chicago taste buds. Not even close. But I’ll give Loops this: they’ve got potential. I ordered the Loop Dog.
