This was a good way to see plants and animals native to NM in one place. I wish I could give it more stars, but I think 4 is being generous. The grounds were overgrown and a lot of animals were out of sight or removed for renovations. Nonetheless, it was a nice walk through the desert, and we learned some things too!
We went on a snowy day and it was lovely. We saw more animals than expected given the weather. They had very informative exhibits and the kids and I enjoyed the gift shop. I bought a few affordable sterling silver rings made by local artisans. If we ever find ourselves in Carlsbad from Dallas again we will make the visit.
This place is awesome for nature lovers! Plants are well labeled. Very cool natural history exhibits inside in building. The employees and volunteers were very friendly, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. They house and care for rescued/rehabbed wildlife that can't be released. We were there at meal time (3:00 pm), so the animals were very active and we got to see a few get fed. It was also mating season for the elk, so we got to hear the male bugle. Park was very nice to walk through. Most animals were out before it got too hot, it was nice!
A beautiful and peaceful place to visit. The zoo is well maintained, the gardens are stunning, and the animal habitats feel very natural. Perfect for a relaxed walk and a great experience overall.
