Love the charm of this place, and old school architectural style. Close proximity to Cascade Gorge and city centre
It was a great place to stay for a decent price. The location was perfect, being a short walk into town and right next to Cataract Gorge. The staff were very lovely at reception. The room was spacious enough for myself, clean, the wifi was very responsive and I appreciated the Smart TV which had YouTube and Netflix on it. There were a couple of issues, there wasn't a lot of natural lighting (window was very small) and the fire alarm went off three times while I stayed for no reason it seemed. Great rooms, comfortable beds and close to Cataract Gorge and Tamar River Cruises. There are restaurants closeby.
We had arrived in Devonport on 12/09/2025 on the “Spirit of Tasmania “. However, we decided not to stay in Devonport but to drive our car to Launceston. As we didn’t reserved any accommodation we decided to check some motels/hotels along Paterson St…and then we found this “gem” called Leisure Inn Penny Royal.
