The restaurant is in a beautiful old mansion. The staff are friendly and attentive. The food is good. The food isn’t as “French” as I expected. Our only disappointment was the lack of a decent burgundy/pinot noir wine option. The one they do have is surprisingly bad. Having spent time in the burgundy region of France, I have definitely had bottles I liked more than others, but have never had one that was just terrible like the only option at this restaurant. Great French burgundy doesn’t have to be expensive…
I'm just going to get this out of the way! BEST dining experience in La Crosse I've ever had! Last night's road to dining lead us to La Chateau in La Crosse, WI. They have been on my to-do list for only a few months because I didn't know they existed! I'm sure glad I know now! What a great dining experience! Right off the bat, I wish could give six stars for atmosphere. It is so cool in Le Chateau! So classy! The Cave bar area feels ridiculously chic as well. I had the spinach salad and ribeye. Both were so so good. The steak was absolutely perfect. I can make really good steak at home, but I've never gotten the char that perfect. My dinner partner ordered the tenderloin dinner that comes with a lobster tail. She didn't want the lobster at all so they took that off the price, which I thought was very cool of them. The Chateau has an exceptional and authentic French menu. Their wine list is one of the most complete I have ever seen. Service was extraordinary!
