Avoid Dr. Powell. She refused to care for me in a professional manner. I ended up needing five surgeries out of state. Terrible insulting doctor. The receptionist refused to offer me a refund on several occasions for services not rendered, and tried to blame me. I asked for the office manager, they told me she was out of the office. Then on another call, they told me there was no office manager. Very unprofessional. There is also extreme lack of infection control protocol in the office. Just called the Oxford location the lady was so very rude! If we only took some time to be kind the world would be better! Birmingham was sweet and kind.
Dr. Powell performed a fibroid removal surgery. The plan was for her to use a minimally invasive approach with the robotic assisted machine to remove a single fibroid on the outside of my uterus, but she ended up doing a full abdominal myomectomy (C section cut). A few years later I needed 3 more fibroids removed, and my new OBGYN said the previous removal absolutely could have been performed via laparoscopy, but it is up to the OBGYN's level of comfort/training. Dr. Powell is a wonderful doctor. Extremely intelligent and competent as well as having a very down to earth bedside manner. She took care of me for my first pregnancy and I felt I was in good hands from the moment we met. She is a good listener and very knowledgeable. My delivery was excellent. Her coaching really helped me as a new mom. I felt confident that things would go as well as possible. The office runs very smoothly and is always on time. Dr. Powell and everyone in her office are absolutely incredible. Nobody cares about how much you know, until they know how much you care, and everyone in this office is a caring, high-level professional. Every time I needed something, had a question, or concern, Dr. Powell and her office always treated me with dignity and respect.
