About this business

Our restaurant name was originally borrowed from the Italian dramatist Luigi Pirandello's short story titled La Giara.A "Giara, Jar in English, is a storage container, cylindrical in shape, typically made of earthenware very common in the Mediterranean area.It seemed to us that a "Giara" would be the perfect symbol of the rustic, genuine world of the Italian peasants from which our cuisine takes inspiration.La Giara opened in April of 1997 and it has been a fixture in the restaurant scene of Murray Hill ever since, gaining g... read more

excellent! – I have lived in the murray hill area for some time, and have not been to la giara in some time. FORTUNATELY, my wife and i went last sunday and had a fantastic time. The food was delicious, the service was professional and warm and the ambiance was welcoming. We started with a beet and blue cheese salad that was refreshing. Our pastas were perfect and the tiramisu was amazing. We have found our new regular neigborhood spot.

Delicious and Authentic Itlaian food in NYC with good service and Atmosphere – I had been here a number of times for the prix fixed lunch. The prix-fixed lunch has a good selection of appertizers and entrees. The price is also very great for its value. ( $14 for one appertizer and one entree). The portions were decent too. The steam mussels with lemon broth is the best I 've ever had in NYC. (I normall don't eat mossels becaue it's hard to make it good). There a number of appertizers and entrees I tried that were delious as ... read more

Best celebration dinner! – My father made a reservation, based upon hearing great reviews... and we all love Italian food... from the beginning to the end of our experience we had a beautiful time! The eggplant pasta (forgot the name) was to die for! I ate the entire tiamisu by myself, and my parents had this potato side that was soooo yummy! Everyone's tastebuds were happy that night... All in all cute, quite neighborhood, classic NYC experience. Thank you for a great time!

worst ever – i ordered take out on a slow sunday night and it took over an hour to get here (i only live 2 blocks away). If I would have know it was going to take so long, I would have gone out and got it myself. Really sad. They showed up with no change, the wrong order and no bread. Thanks for nothing !!

Always Great! – La Giara has been a favorite of mine for a very long time. The food is always consistently good. The menu is such a nice blend of many different dishes, it is very hard to get bored, but the specials are also great! The cozy atmosphere and great staff provide an incredible atmosphere. Again, in a city with so many restaurants, this remains my favorite!!

So delicious! – This place is the best! The food is wonderful with some very unique options. Pair this will a quaint setting, great wine list, and helpful staff and this is by far one of the best options in this part of town.

Superb!!!! – This place is totally amazing! Great food, awesome knowlegable staff, LA GIARA is the best place to hang out with friends, drink some wine, and munch on the most creative combinations of food! the prices are surprisingly reasonable, the wine list is huge, (lots of friendly help deciding on which one from the staff), and the chef is adorable!

Mighty good – So , this is what italian food should taste like. Not only the recipes are original, but they really good , not only on paper. Great pastas, of course, but also different desserts(try the latte cheese cake) and a grest wine selection. You still pay $6 dollar for a glass of chianti!!! This place is cheap for the quality of food you get. Worth a visit.

IF NOT UNIQUE,ALMOST... – BEEN THERE A FEW TIMES, FOUND IT AN EXQUISITE LITTLE RESTAURANT. THEY HAVE SOME RARE ITALIAN RECIPES... NOT A LOT OF TOMATO RECIPES. THE WINE LIST IS COOL ...A LOT OF WINES BOTTLE UNDER 30. Try the Short ribs in soffritto sauce, and a unique flourless almond chocolate cake. AH, GREAT LIMONCELLO MARGARITA.
