two words: Dragon. Maki. – Went to Kyoto Sushi Restaurant for the first time last weekend with my boyfriend. Heard rave reviews about the place through a friend. I ordered their Dragon Maki and Kyoto Maki, and both were beyond excellent! Freshest sushi I've ever had, and I could not believe how no one has figured out this hidden gem of a restaurant yet. I am officially going back there just for the Dragon Maki alone which melts in your mouth with a sweet aftertaste. Just amazing. My boyfriend who isn't a huge sushi fan was t... read more
Hidden Gem – Without much fanfare, Kyoto Sushi Restaurant was reopened about a month ago under new management. The interior is nothing like the "Old Kyoto" in which the bar, tables and chairs were of a bland blonde hue. Step into the "New Kyoto" and you will see a restaurant rich in colors from their new granite tables and sushi bar to the burgundy hued soji screens. Candles and new decor help create a very inviting and intimate atmosphere. I was quite pleasantly surprised. Food ranges from the basic makis and rolls to the m... read more
Best Sushi!! – I went back to Kyoto this past weekend. Sat at the sushi bar with my friend Val. The chef's specials were written on the blackboard behind the counter. We decided to try a couple of them. We had the spicy tuna tataki and the hirami naruto in addition to a couple of our other staple rolls; spider, dynamite and california rolls. Once again, everything was fresh and tasty and presented beautifully. There is so much art in sushi! This was Val's first time and she was definitely impressed. We'll be back with our fr... read more
Great sushi plus friendly service staff and sushi chefs (twins) – I took my family to the re-opened Kyoto Sushi Restaurant. It has been completely remodeled/renovated. New granite tables, solid wood chairs, big flat screen TV, gorgeous shoji screens, great lighting, solid surface wet bar (no liquor license yet), and sushi bar. Anyway, the chefs and staff greeted my family and me immediately as we walked in the door. And guess what the sushi chefs are identical twins. My son really got a kick out of this. Oh, did I mention th... read more
New Japanese Sushi in Lincoln Park! – This place just recently reopened after renovations. It's a little difficult to notice at first, but it pays off once you come in to discover what's inside. Just look for the blue KYOTO sign just southeast on lincoln from the APOLLO theater and come on in... When you walk in, the decor and ambience is what you notice first. It has a very intimate feeling with dimmer lighting for dinner, granite tables, and artwork. The staff was very friendly and greeted us right away. The menu offers al... read more
Chicago's Dynamic Duo -Experience Cutting Edge Sushi, Enchanting Ambiance, & Legendary Service – I had such a great experience, I would not have guessed this place just reopened. The chic and modern japanese interior with candlelight illumination, clean lines, and granite tables gave away that this place had been overhauled. I also saw two new faces behind the sushi bar, identical twin sushi chefs. The chefs greeted me and my wife immediately as we walked in the door. We watched him cutting a fish and he asked us what we lik... read more
