My husband saw referred to Dr. McGuire after a workplace injury in July. He had received shots already with little to no relief. This would be the second time seeing a neurosurgeon. Dr. McGuire’s attention to patient frustration who is clearly in pain was low. He did take time to draw out a diagram & answer questions. However, he refused to allow the workman’s comp nurse for the case in till after the appointment. I was sent to Dr.McGuire from the pain and spine doctor. After having a MRI and it showing I have herniated bulging disc one that is extrusion measuring approximately 7 x 7 mm, which results in moderate right lateral recess stenosis. There is encroachment and likely impingement of the descending right L5 nerve root. There is a more broad-based extraforaminal disc bulge measuring approximately 10 mm, which results in moderate to severe right foraminal stenosis. My wife saw Dr. McGuire at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center about many many years ago . I saw you as well. She fell off a horse when she was young and was in a lot of pain and could have used 3 fusions Dr. McGuire does not like to do surgeries unless absolutely necessary . He knows you will never be pain free and advised against doing it. To date, my wife is fine. Your an honorable Doctor and saw one of the best neurologists at BIDMC who referred us and retired. 10 years ago Dr. McGuire performed a spinal fusion after I suffered an accident working as a Paramedic. While I was on the operating room table my daughter was born. After my surgery, Dr. McGuire came to my room, sat down in the chair next to my bed, told me the surgery went well and I was a dad. Dr. McGuire is far more than an incredible surgeon, he is an extremely kind, patient gentleman.
