I love Kadampa meditation center. Everybody is friendly, they make you feel welcome and peaceful. Teachers are great, so as books and special courses. I highly recommend it if you are looking for peaceful practice in a safe nice place in Chicago.
I was hesitant, anxious, and filled with questions when I first stepped into Chicago Kadampa (BloNo Branch). Instead of judgment, I found a tribe of genuine, imperfect, and compassionate humans. Gen Zamling's patience and wisdom helped me unravel my confusion, and the community provided me with a sense of belonging and comfort. My heart is full and I'm forever grateful.
The meditation was nice, however, they offer no books by the Dalai Lama or Thich Nhat Hanh or any other Buddhist monks. They only sell books/offer teachings by this one guy, Kelsang Gyatso which raised red flags for me... the people here were nice, but I don't believe this is a true Buddhist meditation center, which is what I was looking for.
I have always been interested in meditation but it was really in KMC Chicago where I learned to meditate. The combination of meditation and Buddhist teachings at the center has really helped me increase my mindfulness and peace of mind.
