I had 2 sessions with Dr. Schwab. As others mentioned, he's a bit obsessed with the money and insurance part of it. But he didn't actually understand the insurance process. For example, he did not understand the difference between a billing code and a diagnostic code. Strange for someone in the medical field for so long.I was hoping in spite of that he'd at least be helpful during the sessions. He was not. Does not know how Aetna works and how deductibles work. Harassed me over the phone by saying that he would call a bill collector, even though I had paid through Aetna.
John has really helped me. He is a delight to talk with, and is very available and supportive. I was somewhat put off by the initial questions about insurance, but am glad I pushed past that. John wants to ensure that your time with him will be covered. Having sent my child to another provider who was not careful about this, I truly appreciate that John does this as it has meant that I am able to afford my visits and can continue to receive his help and support.
Dr. Schwab made me an appt. 3 weeks out, then asked me if I could change the appointment time the week before. I told him the appt. time would not work for me as my husband would be coming home from Bainbridge at that time. Meanwhile, I told 2 other psychologists I had found a doctor. Instead of making me a new appt., Schwab told me, "best to look elsewhere, my practice is full." Harsh!
No clue what that other reviewer is talking about. I have seen Dr. Schwab for a decade and he is superb. You won't find a more thoughtful, caring therapist.
Very poor communication upfront. Only interested in insurance coverage.
