Jim Dowell is great transmission shop. Jim is very friendly, honest, and very reasonable. He advised me that it would cost too much to repair my transmission for the age of my car since my car’s market value was way below the cost of the transmission repair. Jim even paid me more to junk my car than what the junk yard would pay. I highly recommend his shop for any of your transmission or clutch repairs. Just a very honest and helpful business. Recommended by work guys ( City of Sarasota). Dropped my car off in the morning and before noon Jim contacted me with what he felt was the issue and actually sent me to another shop for a different repair before even suggesting working on my transmission. The guy is a solid honest guy and his shop guys were very personable as well. Highly recommend this guy for transmission work or if your looking for a local mechanic as well- this is the place to contact 1st!
Jim and his staff are excellent. Totally honest and trustworthy. I had taken my car to other workshops for estimates and received a list of items that needed repair. Jim's staff came up with just two items, both of which were mentioned by the other shops. None of the remaining items on the others list needed repair. I had jim repair the two items and his final bill was less than the estimates for those items from the other shops. I've had the car back for a couple of weeks now, so I can write my review totally assured. Without a doubt I would recommend Jim Dowell Transmission to anyone that asked me concerning any transmission problem. My clutch went out on my Scion tC with a manual transmission but I was able to make it to the shop. Justin diagnosed the problem immediately and correctly. Brought my 06 Ford Crown Victoria in because it was struggling to find 3rd gear. They did a full transmission rebuild on it in 2 days and took it on a 100 mile test drive to verify that everything was working as it should. When I arrived to pick it up they told me to take it for a drive before I gave them any money to be sure I was satisfied I have never had a repair shop do that for me. These guys are phenomenal, I normally do all the work on my own vehicles and am nervous about taking my cars to shops. Communication was great with them, they were incredibly friendly, and know what they are doing, we broke down on our way to visit family in Florida and even though there was a holiday that week, after the holiday they had the transmission in my Hemi Commander out, rebuilt and back in in three days, they even gave us a fantastic price to do the job.
