"EARTHQUAKE HERO" THIS IS THE DOCTOR WHO CLIMBED UP A LATTER, CRAWLED UNDER THE COLLAPSED FREEWAY IN THE SAN FRANCISCO QUAKE 1989 TO SAVE A 6 YEAR OLD BOY, JULIO BERIMAN. THE BOY WAS SITTING IN THE BACK SEAT OF A CAR BUT HAD HIS LEGS SLIDE UNDER THE SEAT IN FRONT OF HIM TRAPPING HIM TO DIE. THIS MAN HAD TO CUT HIS RIGHT LEG TO FREE HIM BUT A MAJOR PROBLEM EXISTED. Amazing surgeon! Successful procedure, excellent bedside manner and with empathy. I will never forget Dr Betts. Surgery was done in 1997 at the Children’s Hospital in Oakland. Patient was 18 and he decided to accommodate her being his patient when she was younger. Hospital staff was great and room with a view.
