JackSons', or Sons of Jack, was born as a tribute to the late father of Andy and Dave Dalton. Jack Dalton was co-owner of Thurmers Tavern when it opened in 1954. Known for their steaks and being St. louis' original "sports bar", Thurmers became a south St. Louis landmark. Good Food and Service Pros: Excellent food. Everything was delicious, good service. Cons: Jacksons has a bar area, and a separate small dining room. We went for a late dinner (around 8:30 pm) and the bar was already cranking up pretty good. The music was loud and they were having some sort of trivia game. All of this was only separated from the dining.
nicer on the inside – We just recently started going to JackSon's and it is really nice and cozy. Dinner is a bit expensive but worth it! Lunch items are much more affordable. The dining room is romantic while the bar is well a bar but they close off the two rooms so there is a nice seperation. My husband just loved the steak!! The angry shrimp are great!!!
Nice atmsosphere the industry night specials are great. sitting out on the patio is wonderful on hot summer nights. the crowd of people is always interesting. check it out.
what's up with the wedge – I had a HUGE hamburger for lunch last week which was pretty good. I went back and tried a steak and wasn't impressed. The salad is just a wedge of Iceberg lettuce. They do bring some good bands in at night but it gets too crowded. Don't ever start a tab at the bar. The bartenders are well known for overcharging, stealing or losing credit cards. Never pay with a bill larger than a 5 because they love to shortchange people, even regulars that have been going there for years.
The best steaks! – One of our favorite places. Neighborhood bar on one side and white tablecloths on the restaurant side. We've been there countless times. Steaks are the BEST, but I like their Voodoo pizza and sandwiches too. We love the atmoshere -hand painted murals on the wall, not to big. The guys that own it are great and service has always been friendly. It may be helpful to call ahead for a table, especially at peak times
Tries to Rip off customers – My husband nd I frequent bars around town and we tried JackSon's because we enjoyed the band they had scheduled. Other than the cramped place with no regular temperature, when we went to pay at the end of the night it was a scandal! We had received half price drink coupons at the door, but no discounts showed on our bill. There were 4 of us on one tab and they had added an extra drink to each of what we had ordered. Best Filet I've had in years!! – Visited Corky's recently after having overheard a group describing their great meal the previous night. I was not dissappointed. The 1/2 pound aged filet was truly outstanding. I had a roasted garlic rub for a topping, wow, really enjoyed my dinner. My friend had a grilled salmon special that was equally wonderful. Don't miss the martini's, a double batch with the remaining pour left at the table. JB
