Izakaya Tomo on 99 Street is still Edmonton's first izakaya, and it still feels like one. I booked ahead, started with salmon sashimi and oysters ponzu, then the Melanie roll, scallop and salmon under the torch. The room is lively, the fish is clean, and a Japanese whisky or a beer with small plates is the right pace. This is the south-side table I take people who care about sushi.
Small, but nice and cozy. Busy, but we were seated right away (2). Nothing jumped out of the menu to us, so we ordered a couple things to try. Great presentation and it was all absolutely amazing!! Highly recommend. We had: *Crispy Sushi Canape (you can select salmon or tuna, we selected tuna as we were getting salmon with the roll) *Tempura Shrimp Roll *Sakura Roll Would have ordered much more, be it we had dessert plans elsewhere and didn't want to eat too much.
Japanese food at its best ... will come back for more
