Editorial fromIn Japan, an izakaya is a down-home tavern that serves comforting, hearty cuisine. Izakaya Ten, spruced up with dim table lights and intriguing artwork hanging from the ceiling, certainly captures the spirit---particularly on the menu.…

a bit fancy for what you get – Used to be a regular here few years ago. the food price seemed to have gotten up, as well as the drinks. The vibe is not so good. it's not really cool. a bit too much of posh feeling for customers. the staff was nice to us. food, on the other hand, is not so good. I know this is almost only worthy Asian bar in Chelsea, other than ridiculous clubs and restaurants. but, this place could do so much better.
nice addition to Chelsea – One thing that attracted me is that they always have ankimo (though not the best I've tasted, but given the portion and price still quite good). It's a Japanese delicay, monkfish liver, and not every Japanese restaurant knows it, let alone offering it. Only the authentic and serious ones do. It's a hip place so the ambience is more jazzy than Japanese. But food is good overall, tea is good (I judge Japanese restaurant by the free tea they offer). Service can be slow at times, but no rudeness. Happy... read more
loved it! – went with 3 friends last night and had the best time! service was great, helpful, nice and quick, and the food was wonderful! the stand-outs were the monkfish liver (delicious!) the cooked (splayed) shrimp with spicy cod roe, the fried oysters and the fluke carpaccio with ponzu (yum!) it was very nice to go to a japanese restaurant that had so much more to offer than just sushi (though the sushi was delicious as well) i totally recommend this place, plus they had a great sake selection. will definitely go back -
A tiny space, small plates and big flavors coexist harmoniously at this Japanese spot in far west Chelsea. – The Scene A neighborhood-heavy crowd settles in at the modern, poured concrete bar to wait for their dates or their tables. Further into the long skinny space, wooden tables and minimalist stools provide perching spots for dinner. Japanese pop plays overhead while servers dip in and out of a huge walk-in sake fridge at the back of the restaurant. The Food The small menu of Japanese food served tapas-style makes a meal... read more
Will Be Back – From the food to the music, everything was authentic. There was the expected fare: edamame, sushi and rolls of various types. But the real gems were the short ribs in miso and the ginger pork belly. The staff was friendly and well informed. The sake was some of the best I've had. Overall, a very good experience, especially the company ; ) Strong recommendation.
Hmm hmm good! Ii desu yo – Great food, great price, hidden gem. We got there by chance because it's next to Tia Pol (spanish tapas), and were delighted by everything... maybe the bottle of sake helped? The food is really original and, well, plain goo oo ood
Neighborhood Find – Ten is a great little neighborhood spot with good food and great drinks. They have the perfect solution for people who don't know a lot about sake - a chart that tells you if the sake is light or full or dry or sweet. Good selection too. If you want something lighter, try a chu hai. It's shochu with fresh juice and very refreshing. The food is all tapas style and a lot of it is excellent. It's kind of rustic and they also have sushi. But I liked the organic chicken tsukone and ginger pork a lot. The servi... read more
worst attitude manager for a brand new spot! unbelievable – some fat girl who claims to be the manager was very rude. cant believe a new restaurant would hire such bad customer -service staff to promote their fledgling spot!
