An incredible tandem kayak ride with my husband led by Richard! He started with a review of proper paddling technique, then briefed us on safety and off we went around Departure Bay. His knowledge of the area and its history, including the Indigenous peoples of this area was very informative. Our discussion on evolution and the changing climate provided a backdrop to things we saw like sandstone erosion, peeling arbutus trees, sea stars, small crabs, jumping fish and harbour seals. Richard is friendly and knowledgeable, and made the trip enjoyable.
Highly recommend doing a kayak tour with Richard. We were a group of four adults, and Richard was quickly able understand our capability level and interests. He gave great explanations around the history and landscape to help us understand the area. We got to see purple sea stars and seals, which made for an exciting time out on the water. We felt safe and engaged the whole time. Richard's many photos that he shared with us after were a great takeaway of a great afternoon.
