This place has the best views and vibe of any place on the whole island to stay at overnight. We come to enjoy the fire pits at dusk, see the harbor lights at night, and people watch stumbling back to their rooms after an evening on the town. This entire island is pricey to stay at but you get what you pay for in lifelong core memories.

My sister and I were on a road trip and I had never been to MacIsland. We are both over 55 and didn't want the entire pomp and circumstances of the Grand, made our reservation at what we believed to be the next best thing. We were not disappointed! Naturally we visited the Grand but were completed enchanted with our choice of The Island House in every respect. We throughly enjoyed our stay.

Staff and restaurant are excellent but that is where it stops. We booked this for a 35th anniversary trip thinking it was a luxury hotel, especially given the $650 a night price. We understood it to be historic, but with that price assumed the rooms had been made into a luxury hotel. That was a bad assumption on our part. The beds are worse than a Motel 8. I did not sleep more that a few hours each night we were there. I would have departed early, but we flew in to Pellston, so we were stuck until our departure flight. Small... read more
