Get directionsHaving a child in the NICU is super nerve wracking. Within the first 2-3 days I would’ve given the NICU ward a 1 star review. Not because the nurses aren’t doing the lords work but because of the uncertainty I felt with our baby boy. I won’t go into specifics but we had our baby at the hospital part of the plan and sometimes challenges come along and when it involves your child you lose yourself a little. My baby girl is two weeks old today, still in the NICU, and has been apart from me most of that time. The only thing familiar to her after birth is me. I’m so glad she’s doing well, but she doesn’t need to be there. She never needed oxygen or a warmer and has passed every test. They put in a feeding tube even though she latched and nursed great the first day. Later, they said she’d need a bottle but never mentioned that when I chose tube over bottle to support nursing. My son was in the NICU for five days last December and I was amazed at the kindness of all the nurses and doctors. They were very competent and professional, as well as encouraging and uplifting. Several nurses went ABOVE and BEYOND by taking the sweetest Christmas photos of my son (so thoughtful because many of the babies in the NICU are unable to get newborn photos), collecting coloring activities for my older children, and making sure we went home with everything we'd need to care for our son. Being a NICU parent is hard, but I’m extremely thankful for these nurses, doctors, and NICU team who are taking care of my baby for about a month now. It’s incredible to see how well they can care for my baby and so many others.
