Minus five stars! Related to my review "concerned" on 2-3-19, I sent a second notice to the new State of Michigan Attorney General, Dana Nessel's office. I received a response on June 24, 2019 stating that the AGs office had reached out to Independence Village on two occasions and received NO response. In my opinion, this implies guilt. This company is dirty and clearly employs some very crafty lawyers. Careful folks, this company CSIG/Independence Village has a legal way of stealing your hard earned money. In this case, the... read more

I moved my mother out of the Independence Village facility in Oxford, MI, for safety reasons. She was falling repeatedly and it was clear that she needed a higher level of care (memory care) that the facility does not provide. I was also advised by medical professionals to move her to a memory care facility. I was charged over $11,000.00 for my mother to NOT reside at Independence Village including home care service charges for 30 days after she moved out! They know how to beat the system and do not care. It's all about mone... read more

Business response:

Hi John, Both the contracts you signed are established with our residents’ well-being in mind. Our main priority is their care and safety. We determine how many care employees to have in our buildings based on the needs of our residents, so they are receiving all the support they require. We understand that you did engage in several conversations with the Executive Director and the Wellness Director about the terms and conditions of the contracts during your mom’s time in our community to avoid any surprises when your mothe... read more

STAY AWAY THEY ARE SCAM ARTISTS. We paid a $2,500 deposit for my mother to move into independence village, then we paid $2,365 for the first month's rent. Three days after she moved in, my mother became gravely ill and ended up going into hospice care, which we could not do at independence village. Debbie Hall, the manager of Independence Village of Plymouth told us that if we moved out all of our mom's stuff and got a letter from her doctor stating she needed more care than they could provide, we would be refunded a pro-r... read more

Business response:

Hello Sarah, First, we would like to ensure you that our Executive Directors are never avoiding calls, but within our model, they spend little time in their offices because they are out in the community spending time with our residents. We are happy to hear that you have recently connected with our Executive Director and that your financial concerns are being addressed as well as resolved. You are correct that Independence Village of Plymouth is not an assisted living community. As company practice, we make sure to express ... read more

My mother resided at the White Lake Independence Village facility for approximately 6 months. When we were "sold" on the place it was clearly stated, if she could no longer live there because of harm to herself or others we would be released from the agreement. After many falls, doctors stated she could no longer live there. A doctor's note was submitted. Still we were held to full 60 days. They forced us to move her and did not accept harm to herself as the reason for moving. She had dementia and often had issues with other... read more
