Excellent explanation of this historical place
Many pieces of history came together during this unassuming tour: I&M Canal was the first designated Heritage Place in the US, biology of mules and their role in the US development, contribution of Irish immigrants and gold rush role to Illinois canal system development, railroad development, Lincoln’s lawyering… Thank you Rebecca and Nickolas and the whole team for the most informative tour. This was our 2nd time enjoying the I&M Canal Boat experience, and we will happily do it again every time we have guests visiting the area. A trip back in time packed with interesting historical information. Really interesting way to spend an afternoon for young & old alike!
Great tour! Our guide gave us so much information about the history of the I&M Canal.
It is rare to experience staff at tourist type non-profits that actually care about their performance and the satisfaction of their guests. The Captain delivered an entertaining, knowledge-filled, description of the history surrounding the canal and the boats that worked on them, explaining how the canal made Illinois the commerce center of the country.
