About this business

Il Fornaio has locations all over California and a few in other states like Colorado, Virginia and Nevada. The menu of Italian comfort food is definitely the reason why this restaurant chain has impressed diners on both coasts. Here in Pasadena, executive chef Maurizio Mazzon creates a comprehensive menu of antipasti, salads, pizza, pasta and the specialties from the grill and rotisserie are what make this restaurant stand out. Of course, a full wine list of Italian varietals is also available.

best $5 lunch in Old Town. Go to the cafe entrance (not the restaurant entrance) on the side of the building and they will make you a fresh vegetarian or mozzarella pizza. Dinner tends to be v. nice creative but well-made food as well, but up a notch in cost from the cafe.

The secret to this Il Fornaio is the lunch counter 'round the side. Great prices and great pizzas and sandwiches, plus fresh-squeezed orange juice.

Great Italian restaurant Il Fornaio has very tasty dishes at prices that match it's great location and food quality. I've been there for lunch and dinner and have not been disappointed with the food. The wait was long though and the service could have been a bit better. PROS: Excellent food CONS: Long wait for food to arrive

Very nice, upscale atmosphere. Reasonable lunch deals. No stand-out dishes, though, in my opinion.

Great Lunch Counter! I strongly concur with other "Insiders" on the deli/lunch counter on the side. The sandwiches (made with fresh baked bread) are fantastic . . . try the tuna or the "turkey, avocado and cheese." You won't be disappointed! Good prices too.

Il Fornaio has good Italian food at a reasonable price. The decor is very nice, and I love their patio seating. However, last time I ate there, it was a bit odd. They asked us if sitting outside was ok, and we said that was fine. They proceeded to walk us WAY out into the courtyard and seat us. We thought this was odd, as we had never sat out quite that far before. The service out there was TERRIBLE. It took forever for our waitress to even notice that we were there. Not only that, but we had the pleasant fragrance of nearby... read more

Il Foranrio cafe is good! While the restaurant may be a bit pricey for lunch, I often find myself going to the cafe portion of Il Fornario for pizzas. They usually give you a relatively large pizza (for 1 or two people) for $5! The pizza is actually quite good! I also recommend the Italian Sodas for $1.50. They have a variety of flavors. Also, the desserts are tasty. This is the place to go if you feel like you want to eat on the patio with friends during lunch.

Food OK, Service Good The food here is OK - not bad, just OK, but it doesn't really stand out to me. Although I must say the kids menu has HUGE portions. I couldn't believe it when my son got a cheese pizza which I thought could feed the both of us. The waiter told me that the kids portions are for an eight-year-old. That's one big eight-year-old!! They do have private rooms that can be reserved for larger parties. I hosted a baby shower here and the staff was very helpful in helping me select a menu. Patio is also a nice pl... read more

Great Food and Good Service The lighting of the place makes it expansive and breathable--very light and airy. Then comes the great variety of Italian dishes. I would recommend the rabbit or the lamb if you are all interested in somethign savory. The wine list is great as well. If you just want to drop in for a drink, I love how long the bar is, all the better for flirting. In the back on the restaurant, you have access to a great bakery and coffeehouse, so you can drop by for a quick pick-me-up to go. On warmer days, opt for... read more
