I had Derek Swajanen for my custody case. I can’t express what a terrible experience it was to have Swajanen as a lawyer. He talked me into agreements that were not in my best interest, he was next to impossible to get a hold of, and gave me terrible advice that worked against me in court. He also signed orders and filed motions without letting me read them. He was 2 months late in filing important motions. I ended up firing him and self representing and had much better results. Attorney George Hyde took our $4,000 retainer for a custody case with a verbal agreement to return it in full if we did not end up using his services. When the time came for us to go to court, He was never available to answer our calls, and even leaving many messages with the office over the course of two months, would not return our calls.
