Being a German on holiday in the area I naturally had to pick up some Hörnchen today and they were so delicious! Very nice and smooth dough and a very good filling too. Hope to have them again if we come again to Connecticut.
We met the owner/ baker Joseph at the German American club Harugari in West Haven. He told us the story of his growing up eating the Hornchen his mother would make. After learning from her , he has perfected them & they are absolutely Delicious! My son described them as bites of glazed apple pie. It is so wonderful to know these homemade european delicacies will continue to be available. I will definitely be ordering more for the Holidays!
The apple ones are so yummy!!! It’s like eating a little apple pie. It is such a unique dessert and sure to please a crowd.
Delectable. Brought two dozen (apple and blueberry) to a party recently and they were a huge hit. Will be back for seconds.
