Extremely long hold times. I know this is the main DV center for Houston/Harris County, but this happens time and time again and it’s a detriment to crisis services for survivors when the hold times are 30-60+ minutes. This is probably a big ask of a non profit that relies on funding from state and federal grants and what not, but please for the love of god, to actually help people, hire more staff to meet the high call volume demands. i called @ 4:58 a.m and was connected to a licensed counselor who heard me out for two minutes about sexual trauma and then proceeded to hang the phone up on me when i’m calling the hotline for help! imagine how that feels as a survivor 😪 that straight up cold & cruel. of course I call back immediately and magically I’m hearing wait time music because they’re experiencing a high call volume now. it’s now been 35 minutes and the wait time music has cut off and now i’m sitting here waiting in silence. they’re VERY unprofessio... read more

Very disappointing experience as a landlord I am extremely disappointed with my experience dealing with the Houston Area Women’s Center and its housing/domestic-violence program. I have repeatedly communicated with the program, including case manager Monique and Marceli, regarding serious issues involving a tenant placed through the program. I AM ROUTED TO ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE AND TOLD THEY'RE FULL AFTER EXPECTED TO GIVE THEM EXTRAORDINARY DETAILS FOR THEM TO WAGER WHETHER THEY WILL MOVE FORWARD AND ABRUPTLY STATE THEY'RE FULL AFTER, that I will be contacted by a counselor to place me in waiting lists for domestic violent and abuses - no call backs, forward to answering machines, or held on hold almost an hour just to be turned away.
