Despite the fact we live in nearby Bend, for four years in a row our family has taken a staycation at House On Metolius to mark ‘real fall’ (usually mid November). This place is so special and magical, it’s a real highlight of our calendar every year. The river runs right past the cabins and the view of Mount Jefferson in the distance makes it feel like you are somewhere far away even though it is not hard to reach. Sitting on the porch in the morning with a cup of coffee is about as quiet as life gets and it is a place where you actually hear the water and the birds instead of noise from people. It is not built around kids or family activities and that is the best part, you can come here to breathe, wander a few trails, and actually rest without distractions.

Beautiful setting! Idyllic scenery and the perfect place to relax. The chef was outstanding and able to accommodate dietary restrictions.

At times I camp nearby in the National Forest. One can tell when they have a dance or party at the house. You can hear it for miles. I come out here for silence, but that's me. Big plus is that they always quiet down by 10 p.m. Remember when we all got that courtesy in the woods? Business is good in the summer.
