Hotel Grinnell is an adaptive reuse of the old junior high school in downtown Grinnell. The building was erected in 1921 as an addition to the high school, with three stories of classrooms, a large gymnasium and an auditorium. The high school was torn down in 1980, but the newer junior high was saved and remodeled into a community center that housed various offices. Meh. For $350, it wasn't impressive. I wouldn't be back. Food and bartender where great. Front desk gentleman was standoffish and uninviting
Unique hotel in a quiet town. A fabulous weekend getaway for me and the wife.
Hotel was easy to find and parking was easily accessible. Staff was very nice and helpful and check in was very easy, even after posted hours. Rooms were clean and cozy, although old electrical and plumbing makes for a constant humm noise. Nonetheless, the history and architecture of the building were fun to learn about. The restaurant "Periodic Table" was a fun lounge with games including Scrabble, shuffleboard, and skeeball, along with card games. Had a superb stay! Beds are very comfortable! Service was outstanding! This place is so cool! A must stay when you are in the area.
