Initially was super pleased with the location of this hotel… great vibe right in Sydney, close to the bay, many bars and fun activities. However, we drove up from Victoria and were very disheartened when we picked this hotel as it came with parking, yet found out in peak traffic trying to park out front that the said ‘parking’ was a 15 minute walk away from the hotel itself. While Hotel Challis offers a great location and stylish front entrance presentation the overall experience was disappointing, lack of customer service and inflexible policies made what could have been a smooth pleasant experience unnecessarily frustrating. The front desk service leaves much to be desired. I booked a one-week stay for my niece after her apartment was flooded and paid upfront. Love staying here! The location is perfect, the hotel is charming and fresh, and there are plenty of restaurant and bar/café options. Lots of lovely little boutiques, too, for hours of shopping, or quick and easy access to the CBD (train/taxi) if a wider range of shops is what you're after. Rooms are modern, but make sure you know what you're booking as some rooms are tiny and have no view, but the price makes up for that. Booked the cheapest room type for 2 people. Room was cramped but had everything we needed for a hotel stay (except toothbrushes which seems standard for sydney hotels?). Reception was wonderful, the lounge opposite reception was lovely and has a coffee machine with two kinds of capsules to choose from, but it is only open when reception is open (8am-8pm). Great peppermint tea as well. A pretty map of the area around the hotel can be taken at reception. Very convenient that we could check out outside reception operation hours... read more
