renter My daughter rented from Horn Prop. 2009/2010 and left the apartment in immaculate condition. After several attempts to get her deposit, they kept $500 of the $720. Do not rent from these people! They are scam artists and they own several properties in Bloomington. The heater barely worked all winter and despite numerous calls, no one ever came to look at it. If you are renting from them now, don't pay last month's rent. They will keep your deposit anyway.
DO NOT rent here I wish I had found this page sooner- I would not have rented from this property. Apart from the house being in terrible condition and always falling apart (and being blamed on us), Horn Properties was terrible to work with. Coming back from winter break, I arrived to find our front door wide open (no one had been there for at least two weeks). Horn had inspected the property for broken pipes and failed to close or lock the door and therefore left our house wide open for days, maybe weeks. I had to call the p... read more
5-Year Renter I have rented here for 5 years. So out of all reviews, please take this one into consideration. My best advice for these landlords and all landlords is communication. If you get a crazy charge for something, and never bring it up, or bring it up in a rude way, then your problem will never be solved. Have patience with them and they will gladly work through any miscalculations in charges. Yes, you do have to do a pretty lengthy amount of cleaning to not get cleaning charges taken out of your deposit. The first y... read more
They have been extremely reachable and offer prompt and helpful replies. They have also been lenient and accommodating with me for every step of the process. Jordan is approachable and friendly and the rest of the staff has always been the same as well. I had a maintenance issue and it was resolved within hours of my reporting. I would recommend! Their properties are also very nice so don't be dissuaded by the lack of photos online--it was hard to choose! Lastly, I enjoy that they do a lot of things in-person and physically,... read more
If you chose to go with Horn, just don’t expect to get much of your security deposit back in the years where they choose to renovate the house you lived in. What made it worse is that at the beginning of the lease we were told that they would not charge us for general renovations and repairs needed for the house (since the house was very old). On top of it throughout our time with Horn we had what I thought was a great relationship. We received several comments on how well we were keeping the place (from Horn and others when... read more
I would recommend Horn Properties to everyone. One of the best places I've ever rented from. When I moved into my little one bedroom apartment, it was spotless and ready for me to move in. Any maintenance issues I had were handled in a efficient timely manner. Everyone in the office was really kind and helpful. There was one semester that I had lost my job and was having difficulty getting my rent in on time, they were very understanding and worked with me. When I moved out I felt like the cleaning list was a little intense,... read more

They do appear nice and responsive initially. However, once signed-- it is all on their time-if at all. Be SURE to read everything in the lease and also check out from the website what is expected at move out time. Really? Take the screens out and wash all the windows, light fixtures, etc? So, then what is the confiscated deposit for? I know many students leave places a pit, but we left a neat place (not doing the screens however), expected some of the deposit to be kept for marginal cleaning and painting, but not all of it.... read more
