My stepdad brought in a 1986 Chaparral 178XL to repair non-working tilt/trim assembly. He knows very little about boats, owner sold him a used tilt/trim supposed 'oem' one that just so 'happened' to be on hand. Charged $700, $500 for the part/ $200 labor. Claimed new one was $1400. Price gouging at it's finest. An honest business owne,r knowing the boat value being around $1500, would NOT do this.
