As a licensed mental health provider who has been in-network with Highmark WNY for five years, I can honestly say that every onboarding or credentialing-related process has been unnecessarily difficult and lengthy. From provider orientation to updating business information, the experience is consistently disorganized and ineffective. Any time I've needed to update my business name or TIN, I've experienced significant payment delays. Employer switched to BCBS and they're denying treatments for preexisting conditions, charging out-of-network for in-network providers, and intentionally unhelpful.
In typical health insurance fashion, they will look for any reason to deny your doctor's prior authorization. In my case, it was due to a minor paperwork error. Health insurance bureaucrats should not be able to override your doctor.
What a mess this company is. I tried to call in to find out more information on the most expensive plan they had on NY ACA portal and got routed to a call center in PA. Its no wonder they have a 0/5 quality rating. Skipping all their products.
