I found this pioneer village to be enjoyable, as it brings back some great memories by looking into the past. Allow 2-3 hours to visit the place. The place is run by volunteers who are all so welcoming, informative, and ready to answer any questions you have.
Great buildings and loved seeing the Big Cow(haven't seen for 50 yrs)..Stopped for damper and Billy tea which both were delicious..Only disappointed as the museum's were closed..Also as I have a walker was a bit hard in some spots to get over..But overall was very interesting for a history buff.
Amazing little gem here. Hubby and I stopped here to have a look, I am so glad we did. Interesting place with a lot of history here. The place itself is 90% wheelchair and pram friendly. There are also non-powered sites here for the cost of a ticket, you can stay for a night and take your time to walk around and see everything here. The Pioneer Village is on 20 acres with 70 buildings to go through and look at. The staff was very friendly and helpful with all the info about the village. There is something here for everyone.... read more
It was really happy memory visiting pioneer village. Beautiful birds and view let us relax and feel peaceful. However, I found the Nazi flag and Japanese Rising sun flag in the transport museum. These flags are the symbol of war crimes that made many victims and also symbol of imperialism. I don't get to the reason why these are on display in Australia, the country of peace.
Highfields Pioneer Village, AKA "The home of the Big Cow". An excellent example of a "Pioneer" village. There were a great many exhibits, all of which were extremely well presented, informative, and interesting. The village is staffed by volunteers who are all willing to engage with visitors to share their knowledge of the village. We spent over an hour wandering around experiencing all the exhibits and thoroughly enjoyed the experience
