Told salesman on phone that I would be trading in a car plus clunker - that I did not want to drive the clunker in until I was sure I would be trading. He said "fine, no problem". My wife and I traveled approx.70-75 miles to dealership. Salesman was helpful, answered all questions. We chose a car. I had questions but that is normal when trading cars.
